I can’t tell you how many times someone has posted in one of my challenge groups about how upset they are because they’re seeing amazing results, they feel great, and the people in their lives who they thought would be the most supportive aren't. In fact, not only are they not supportive, they're usually demeaning. “You’ve changed”, “You’re just stuck on yourself now”, “You’re obsessed”. A lot of people will hear “You’re too skinny”, when they are well within a healthy weight. “You looked better before”. It’s mind blowing the negative comments I’ve heard said to both myself and people in my challenge groups, and almost every time it goes back to one thing, them and how they feel about themselves. This has nothing to do with you, and everything to do with them. These people see you changing your life for the better, and it forces them to look at their own lives and the things they’re not happy about, but not yet willing to change. They make excuses for themselves “I could never do…”, “It’s easy for you”, “I don’t have the time, money, whatever to do that”, when in reality, where there’s a will there’s a way. If it’s something they want bad enough, they will find a way to do it.
This gets talked about a lot in my fitness challenges, but rarely with other areas of life, and I think it’s so important we talk about it (even though it's something you may not want to hear). They make excuses for themselves “I could never do…”, “It’s easy for you”, “I don’t have the time, money, whatever to do that”, when in reality, where there’s a will there’s a way. If it’s something they want bad enough, they will find a way to do it. I see the same thing happen in other areas of people’s lives, too. When I post about traveling I’m sure there are some people who say to themselves “It must be nice, she doesn’t have kids, I could never do that”, not realizing that the majority of the people I travel with do have kids, and have overcome some incredible obstacles, including bankruptcy and major health scares, to be able to do what they're doing now. Instead of letting their situation define them, they let it empower them. If someone is a successful coach I often hear people say “it’s because they have a good upline coach and I don’t”, completely ignoring the fact that some of the top coaches in the company have no active upline coach and have been very successful. They don’t have secrets, they have drive and determination. They don’t sit back and wait for someone to tell them what to do, or throw a pity party because they’re not getting the help they think they deserve, they’re going out and making it happen. They don’t let their excuses get in the way of the things they want to accomplish. Here’s a good test to see if you’re living to your potential and making things happen, or if you’re making yourself a victim, blaming others and making excuses. When you see someone post something positive on facebook like a vacation, losing weight, a promotion at work, a new house, what’s the very first feeling you get in your gut. Is it happiness? Jealousy? If the first thing you think is “why not me?” then it’s time to look on the inside and change the way you view the world around you. You can either let people’s successes inspire you, or shut you down with envy. Your thoughts define your life, choose wisely! It's so important that you live YOUR life according to YOUR priorities. If someone else doesn't approve, that's on them, not you. If this has helped you, or you know someone who's going through this right now, please share this with them!

Oh my gosh this couldn't have come at a better time. My husband is a genius! I'm going to be traveling a lot these next two weeks, and staying on track with nutrition while traveling is hard enough as it is, especially when you can't get through security with a bottle of water to mix with your Shakeology. And then, these. These amazing little chocolate cakes of superfood goodness. Not only are they super easy to make, they're also super healthy, 21-Day Fix approved and only use TWO ingredients! (Ok, three if you count water.) All you need to make these is chocolate Shakeology (we use vegan chocolate) and ripe bananas. Chocolate Superfood Cake bars 4 scoops chocolate Shakeology 2 ripe bananas water (just enough to mix) Makes 4 servings (for my 21-Day Fixer's, they're one red and one purple each) Mash 2 ripe bananas with a fork. Add 4 scoops of chocolate Shakeology to the banana mixture. Mix banana mixture and chocolate Shakeology, adding just enough water to blend. Line a small Tupperware container with parchment paper. Press mixture into container to form. Flip Tupperware container over to remove mixture and cut into 4 squares. Dehydrate overnight on low temp to preserve the nutrients in Shakeology. I told you they were easy! Enjoy! :)
We all know that to get the results we want with the workout we choose, we need to follow the meal plan that came with our workout. Easier said than done, I know. But this can be especially difficult for people who follow a vegan, or 100% plant-based, diet. Sure, you can substitute tofu and protein powders for the animal proteins in the meal plan, but who wants to be living off of tofu and protein powders for the next 90 days? And is it going to be something you'd want to continue after you finish the program? (By the way, that's a good way to figure out if what you're doing is a sustainable lifestyle change. Ask yourself, "Would I eat like this AFTER day 90?") Every time I do a new program I try to follow the meal plan 100% (while still remaining vegan) because it's the best way to find out just what kind of results someone can expect from it, and it's the fastest way to get results. I just finished up the 21-Day Fix this weekend and was able to easily do it vegan, and I even did a round of Body Beast, including the competition prep week, vegan. (THAT was a challenge!) Over the years I've definitely seen a change in Beachbody's meal plans. They're now focusing more on quality of food, and less on quantity, and they're taking into consideration people's different dietary concerns and allergies, whether you are lactose intolerant, gluten sensitive, Paleo or vegan, and so far the easiest to follow meal plan for vegans is from P90X3! (Other than the 21-Day Fix, that meal plan is in a category of it's own because of it's portion control system, which I LOVE LOVE LOVE! It's seriously so simple.) The P90X3 meal plan gives you a simple calculation to figure out which level of calories you need, and each level is broken down into carbs, protein and fat. For myself, I fell under "Plan A", which is roughly 1,500 calories, and each day I was allotted 5 proteins, 10 carbs and 5 fats. One of the most notable things with the P90X3 meal plan is that you are not stuck substituting things for the protein category, so no tofu and protein powders (unless, of course, you want to!) Vegans are able to replace as many protein portions with a carb as you like, the only recommendation is to evenly distribute the grains and beans/legumes. How great is that! Here's what the P90X3 shopping guide looks like for vegans! And here is what a week of meals look like! Whether you're vegan or not, I'd love to help you reach your health and fitness goals! Feel free to connect with me on facebook and follow me on Instagram and let me know what I can do to help YOU!
It seems like it was literally yesterday that I was updating you with my week 2 results from the 21-Day Fix, and here I sit, a 21-Day Fix graduate! I honestly cannot believe how fast these past 3 weeks have gone! This week was a little different than the first two weeks. First off all, I missed my first workouts (gasp!) It started at the beginning of the week. Saturday was the date of an annual run called the Polar Bear Run which benefits a local YMCA. It's a 5k race, and for fun there's a person dressed up as a polar bear who runs the race, too. If you finish before the polar bear, your race shirt says, "I beat the bear!" and if you don't, it says, "The bear beat me". We not only beat the bear, we both placed in our age groups, Scott came in 2nd in his age group, I came in 3rd in mine! I still got in my Total Body Cardio that day, but I'm just going to count the run as my Pilates. :) The rest of the week went great. This week I made the Asian Citrus Vinaigrette from the 21-Day Fix recipes and it was really good! I also started counting quinoa, beans and lentils as a red container this week (instead of only a yellow container), so I had a little more flexibility with my meals each day. Here's where the week got interesting... the 3-Day Quick Fix. The 3-Day Quick Fix is an OPTIONAL 3-day bikini prep meal plan that you can do any time (and only once) during the 21-Day Fix, so I decided to do it for the final three days. The 3-Day Quick Fix has you eating six meals for the day, but there is MUCH more structure with the foods you can have during those three days. No blue containers, no orange containers, no purple containers, and only two yellow containers; one for oatmeal as meal #1, and one for sweet potatoes as meal #2. The remainder of the meals are red and green containers (protein and veggies) and a total of four teaspoons of coconut oil for the day. You're also instructed to drink a full gallon of water a day while on the 3-Day Quick Fix. If you fail to plan, you plan to fail. The meals for the 3-Day Quick Fix were pretty un-exciting, but knowing that it was only three days, it was totally mentally doable. And surprisingly, it was more food than I had expected! By day three, I actually skipped my final meal because I wasn't hungry. My next skipped workout came on the very last day. It was supposed to be my final day of yoga, but it was also the same day as Buffalo's Shamrock Run 8k, and Team Synergy was in full effect! Let me just tell you how insanely proud I am of everyone who came out and completed it. About 15 people total, a mix of coaches and challengers from Team Pure Synergy, all came out to brave the cold and run 4.97 miles through Buffalo's Old First Ward. What's even more amazing is that the majority of those that came out had never run an 8k, never run a 5k, and never even run one mile before, but they took that first step, signed up, and every single one of them completed the race with a HUGE smile on their face. We had such a great time, that we're even talking about signing up for one new run a month now to do as a team! So yes, it was totally worth skipping yoga for. :) And now for my results! After 21 days I lost a total of 5 lbs, putting my total weight lost since Christmas at 11.6 lbs! Just a disclaimer: your results may differ (obviously!) If you have more weight to lose, you may lose weight faster than someone like me who only had those last stubborn 5 lbs to lose. Those 5 lbs may not sound like much, but I'm pretty impressed with my pics! Not only that, I feel so much stronger and my energy has been sky high. My core is stronger now than I think it ever has been in my entire life, and the best part... I know have a whole new outlook on clean eating. I learned just how easy it really can be. I learned what foods to eat and how much of them to eat (turns out I was way off with my portions before!) And I think the one thing that stands out the most to me is that today is day 22, one day after finishing, and I still ate the same way I would have if I was on the 21-Day Fix plan. It's now a lifestyle change, not a fad diet, which is the most important takeaway that I have from this. How often have you done a "diet" or meal plan, only to eat all the foods that you "couldn't" have the next day? And usually gain all the weight you lost back right away? That's what was so great about this plan. If I wanted chocolate or wine, I could! I never felt deprived and the list of foods for me to choose from was HUGE! There honestly was never a day that I said to myself, "I wish I could have ____". My current accountability group is about to start on their third and final week of the 21-Day Fix tomorrow. You can find some of their amazing results from their journey here. My next group starts in just ONE week and will fill up fast! If you're sick of dieting, counting calories or points, stuck at a weight loss plateau, or are just ready for a change, send me a message on facebook or contact me here to learn more and reserve your spot for my next group! It takes 21 days to create a new habit! As I'm wrapping up my last few days of the 21-Day Fix, my challengers are just a few days behind me and are about to finish up their 2nd week. I wanted to share a few of their 7-11 day results, and I had planned on putting them in a picture collage, but as I was scanning our private facebook group today it became pretty clear pretty quick that I wasn't going to be able to fit all of the amazing results into just one little picture. So... does the 21-Day Fix work? I think these posts and pics from my challengers speak for themselves! (FYI, the pics were posted ONLY after getting permission from both Jess and Andrea. As always, what happens in my private groups, stays private!) And the best part... these results are all from only 7-11 days. Just think of how AMAZING their results are going to be after the full 21 days! My next 21-Day Fix group will be starting in just a couple short weeks, and like the others, it will fill up fast! If you'd like to lose up to 10-15 lbs in 21 days, learn not only what to eat, but how much to eat, and finally take control of your nutrition and portion control, reserve your spot for my next group here or send me a message on facebook!
As promised, here is my week 2 update for the 21-Day Fix! First of all, I seriously can't believe how fast this is going. Two weeks already! Since my first post, I've had a few people express concern over the size of the color coded food containers. Yes, they LOOK small, but trust me, they hold A LOT more food than you'd think! In fact, everyone in my 21-Day Fix accountability group has commented at some point that they're amazed at the amount of food they're able to eat on this plan, and still lose weight! That's because they're fueling their body with nutrient dense foods. This week I bumped myself up the the next level of calories, which allows me a couple extra containers. I've also been experimenting a lot more with my food. I'm still doing a lot of smoothies and stir fry's, but I've also been adding other things like sushi, sweet potato and red pepper bisque, kale, quinoa and avocado salad and brownie bites. (Yes! Brownie bites!) Now that I'm in the swing of things, food prep has become second nature and I'm able to adapt some of my favorite recipes to fit the plan. This week was also the first week I used one of my "Zings", or substitutions. You're allowed three Zings a week, and they include wine, chocolate and there are even a few cookie recipes you can use. I was pretty boring and I used mine for soy milk in my decaf coffee. It's actually been an interesting two weeks, I haven't even wanted to cheat on the meal plan and I haven't had any cravings at all (which is TOTALLY not like me!) It's also been super easy to follow the meal plan using printable charts that can be found here. This week also came with some pretty EXCITING NEWS for VEGANS! This week we got the green light to add beans, lentils and quinoa to the red foods category! This news came at the perfect time, too. After two weeks of protein powders and tofu I feel like I've swallowed a brick! I'm also pretty happy I get to add some more fiber back into my diet. So this is what the updated vegan 21-Day Fix food list looks like! I'm getting much better with the workouts, too. I'm getting the moves down, I'm not as sore, and I'm already seeing RESULTS!!! I can honestly say that I have never in my life worked my abs as much as I have this past week, which is good news because I'm heading on a Beachbody cruise in just four short weeks. After two weeks of doing the 21-Day Fix, I'm down 2.8 lbs, putting my total weight loss since Christmas at 9.4 lbs! So now that I'm entering into my final week, a few things are going to change. First, I'm going to add in the Plyo Fix bonus workout. This is a free workout you get when you order through your coach (me!) and can be added in any time you feel like doing a little extra cardio, or you can use it to replace Cardio Fix, which is what I'll be doing at least one of the days. Second, I'll be switching over to the 3-Day Quick Fix meal plan for my final three days, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. This is a 3-day bikini prep meal plan that is optional for your last 3 days of the 21-Day Fix. It is a typical competition meat and veggies diet, so I'll be pulling out the tofu and protein powders again for those three days. This week also came with some other great news! After the 21-Day Fix SOLD OUT only 3 days after being released, back orders started shipping this past weekend. If you'd like to learn how to FUEL YOUR BODY properly for optimal weight loss and energy, reserve your spot for my next facebook accountability group by messaging me on facebook or filling out the form found here and I will get back to you shortly!
Wow! This past week has flown by! This past Sunday I started a brand new program called the 21-Day Fix. For those that don't know, the 21-Day Fix is a 21 day fitness and nutrition program that focuses on portion control to help people learn how to eat clean, lose weight and build lean muscle. Some of the results coming out of the Test Groups have been amazing! People are losing an average of 10-15 lbs in 21 days, and there are several people who have done multiple rounds and have lost over 100 lbs!! I know that a lot of people who follow my journey are vegan like myself, so I am so excited to share with you how I put together my meals every day! The meal plan is sooo easy to follow. It gives you calculations to figure out how many of each color container you get to eat in a day. Each color represents a different category of food. There is also a category which uses a teaspoon (which is not included in the package, but hey, who doesn't own a teaspoon?) Basically, you pick a food from the provided list, and if it fits, you eat it! The meal plan also includes a couple "Zings", or "cheats", which allow you to have chocolate, cookies and even wine while on the plan. The containers LOOK much smaller than they are. Once you add the food and get them arranged on a plate, you find that they actually hold quite a bit of food! The fitness plan includes 8 workouts which range from cardio, cardio with weights, upper body, lower body, yoga, abs, pilates, and even one called Dirty 30, a 30-minute total body workout. All workouts are 30 minutes in length, with the exception of the ab workout, which is 10 minutes. I got a little carried away at first when I saw there was a doubles schedule (two workouts a day) and it wasn't until day 3 that I noticed that the doubles schedule was actually only for week 3. (Oops! I'm leaving for a Beachbody cruise in 6 weeks so I have abs on the brain!) Thankfully that same day I found out that if you're already used to working out, that you can start the doubles week from day 1. You would just need to readjust the amount of each color you get in a day (and it tells you exactly how to do that. Simple!) Below is a list of all of the vegan options for each color container. So many choices! For non-vegans following the plan, your red category is much larger, and there are a couple additional items in the blue category. Paleos, your yellow category would need to be adjusted (I think, I honestly don't know much about Paleo eating). And THIS is everything I was eating during week 1! I've color coded everything to correspond with the color of container to make it easier on you. Just a disclaimer: I eat weird. Even before I was vegan, I was totally ok with eating the same foods and eating them in strange combinations. You could totally put these together using recipes and make some amazing meals out of them if you're into that kind of thing. I promise I'll work on doing more of a variety (stay tuned next week for my sushi I made today!), but for right now, it's a lot of smoothies and stir fry's. Nice and simple! I use both vegan chocolate and vegan tropical Shakeology. If I'm making a smoothie I'm more likely to use tropical, and if I'm just mixing it with water, I almost always use chocolate. And I use a variety of protein powders. This week I rotated between chocolate Vega Sport Recovery Protein and chocolate Sun Warrior raw protein blend. And here are my results so far! After week 1 I am down 1.4 lbs! It may not SEEM like a lot, but I FEEL much lighter, more toned, and holy abs batman! I swear, Autumn (the trainer) adds an ab workout on to everything. I don't think I've ever done this many planks in my life! But I'm definitely not complaining, just getting me closer to my goal of having abs by my 35th birthday!
For this next week, I'm going to reevaluate my calories and bump myself up to the next calorie range, so I'll be getting a few more color containers each day. I'm also going to experiment more with different recipes, including the salad dressing recipes that come with the plan. I'm going to be putting together an accountability group for others who are interested in doing the 21-Day Fix themselves. It's a small, private facebook group where I'll post daily posts to help keep everyone on track for the 21 days. My first group is set to officially kick off tomorrow and SOLD OUT in only 3 days! If you'd like to be in my next 21-Day Fix accountability group, please fill out this form and I'll get back to you asap! If you have any questions about the 21-Day Fix, it's workouts, meal plan or results you can expect, post them in the comments below or message me on facebook! I was never that person who knew what they wanted to do "when they grew up". After high school, I went away to school in NYC, only to come home 2 weeks later. I then enrolled in a local private school where I finished about 3 or 4 semesters, changing my major each time. During my last semester I was offered a job at GM working on a factory line. It definitely wasn't my dream job, but I was 21 years old and the money and benefits were too good to pass up, so I left school for the last time and joined the union. I was working long hours, swing shifts and even some midnights in a dirty and physically demanding job. I had no freedom and couldn't picture myself working there for 30+ years. There were days that I would cry before I left for work because I was so unhappy. In 2006, after working there for 6 years, I took a leap of faith and left, not knowing what I was going to do, but knowing I had to do something that made me happy. People thought I was crazy for leaving the money and benefits, but I knew I needed to do something that made me happy! I worked as a dog groomer for a couple of years, retail in the mall one Christmas, and went to school to get my esthetics, nail tech and massage licenses, eventually ending up full time in a spa. I was doing jobs I liked, but still didn't have that freedom (or income) I needed. I was struggling to make ends meet, I had no flexibility in my schedule and I was working "for" people, not "with" people. There was no room for growth. I had missed out on going home for Christmas for the second year in a row because of work, and then I met my coach and found out about Beachbody's coaching opportunity and it literally changed my life. I had already been using Beachbody workouts like P90X and TurboFire for years. My coach introduced me to a whole new group of people that were just like me. A group of passionate, supportive people who loved fitness and helping others. People who were living a life of their design because of coaching. Honestly, I thought it was too good to be true, but I also knew I had nothing to lose, so in April of 2012 I signed up to become a coach and right from the start I was hooked! I loved working with people and helping them achieve their goals and I loved being able to do it from home, on my time. Then, exactly one year later, I lost my full time job. Without coaching, that would have been a devastating blow, but it happened to be a blessing in disguise. I was able to take this passion for coaching and turn it into my full time job! It's honestly like no job I've ever had. Over the past two years I have met some of my closest, most supportive friends. I've been able to travel to Las Vegas two times for an annual Beachbody Coach Summit. I've had all expense paid trips to Disney World, Laguna Cliffs, CA and Santa Monica, CA and I'll be going on an all expense paid Caribbean cruise next month, and to Cancun next spring. I have now replaced my past income, I don't have to ask for days off, I don't have to call in sick. I make my own hours and decide what I do with them. There is no limit to how much I can grow, and all of this has been possible with coaching. All for helping people and making a difference in their lives, both physically with fitness and nutrition, and financially with coaching. I'm not worried about the future anymore. I'm not just going through the motions in life. I'm dreaming big, setting goals and achieving them, and I've never been happier or more fulfilled!
If you are interested in joining me and my amazing team to start transforming people's lives (including our own!) please fill out this form as honestly as possible. I am looking for passionate people that are really looking to make an impact and aren't afraid to DREAM BIG!
How many times have you told yourself one, or all, of the sentences above? So many times that you're starting to believe them? Do you know that YOU have 100% CONTROL over ALL of them, and until you realize that you're believing your own EXCUSES? I have definitely been guilty of saying many of these things to myself in the past, and now these are things I hear from others DAILY. Have you ever looked at me and said to yourself, "I wish it were easy for me like it is for her?" If you have, then I'm glad you're reading this! I'm going to tell you a little secret.... It most definitely was NOT easy for me at first, and I STILL struggle now! It's easy to look at someone and see them as they are NOW... and totally overlook the JOURNEY they took to get them there! So here's a little glimpse into my journey. This weekend I'm running my first 5k of the year, and I happened to stumble upon this pic from my first 5k ever. I wasn't always a runner. In fact, the first time I ever ran I was in my early 20's and I was wearing jeans. No joke. I had just started dating Scott and I wanted to impress him because he was a runner, so one day while working overtime at General Motors I left out the back door on a break to go running. I ran as far as I could, then turned around and walked back. The next day when I went out I knew I had to go at least as far as I did the day before, and I did! Then I started running at home with Scott. At first it was a mile, then two, then we signed up for our first 5k. On the day of my first 5k I smoked two cigarettes and ate an entire bag of Reeses Pieces in the car on the way to the race. If you notice in the picture, I also weighed a lot more then than I do now, sometimes over 15 lbs more (I wouldn't weigh myself when I knew my weight was up, so that number could be closer to 20 lbs).
Over the years I've continued running, even doing two full marathons. It's been 10 years since I've had a cigarette and 5 years since I've had Reeses Pieces. My weight still fluctuates, and I still have good body image days and bad body image days, but overall I am in such a better, happier, more consistent place than I ever have been. Baby steps got me to where I am today, and I continue to use baby steps to help me grow daily. None of this was done over night. I didn't wake up one morning as a non-smoking vegan marathon runner. It took TIME and PATIENCE! So please, next time you look at someone and say to yourself "I could never do what they're doing" just remember, they once thought that exact same thing about themselves. Enjoy your journey! :) We have ANOTHER $500 daily winner on Team Synergy!!! I can't say enough how proud of Melanie I am. She is a busy flight attendant, coach and newlywed, who despite being away from home for stretches of time still manages to get her workouts in and take control of her nutrition. No excuses! These are Melanie's winning results from doing the Ultimate Reset 21-day cleanse 2 months ago! "Before I did the Ultimate Reset, I felt sluggish, bloated, and just very uncomfortable. I felt weighed down. Totally bloated like a blob. I'm a coach, so I was active enough, and I eat relatively healthy enough, but I just kept losing—and gaining—the same 7 pounds. My weight loss hit a plateau, and I was tired of putting in the workout effort without seeing results.
Plus, I just couldn’t catch up on my rest. I would fall asleep pretty fast, but I could never seem to get a good night’s sleep. Luckily, a bunch of the other coaches had mentioned that they did the Beachbody Ultimate Reset and got awesome results. When they told me that they tried it because they were experiencing the same problems I had—low energy, irregular digestion, poor sleeping patterns—I started thinking about giving the Ultimate Reset a try. Luckily, a Reset Challenge Group was just getting started, so I said, ‘why not’ and joined. I knew a Challenge Group would help me stay accountable and give me the chance to work with other people going through the Reset at the same time. (I can’t tell you how much it helped to have 5 friends for the 21 days.) Over the course of the Reset, I started to feel a lot more energized—almost from the beginning—with natural energy that seemed to be constant, with no ups or downs. I was feeling a lot less sluggish and noticed that I was sleeping more solid through the entire night. And yes, my “regularity” improved, too. I started to feel much lighter and a whole lot less bloated. That was a relief, but I also started to see the definition in my body that the bloating had hidden. That was definitely a turning point for me. I finally lost those pounds I kept losing and gaining, and I was able to lose an additional 6 inches, as well. Since completing the Reset, I feel totally revitalized. I’m ready to add a new workout program and I’m ready to keep losing more weight now that I know a better way to eat clean. I’m excited. Before doing the Reset, I ate what tasted good. Now I know what my body needs as fuel, and I have now found new foods to fuel me properly that taste great too. In fact, I feel so much better that I plan to do an annual Reset every year to make sure my body—and my metabolism—are running optimally."
