These amazing, world class products that Beachbody provides for us are intense programs that generate great results, BUT they also show modifaications to all the moves so that anyone, and I mean anybody can do them! It may take a little time and some dedication but with the help of your coach great things are sure to come. You have to start somewhere, with one day pushing play, then push play the second day and so on. It really comes down to that one decision, so keep pushing play and if you need my help I'm here for you!

From gym rat to home workout guy

http://www.hendersonfitness.com/scotts-blog/from-gym-rat-to-home-workout-guy

http://www.hendersonfitness.com/scotts-blog/from-gym-rat-to-home-workout-guy#comments

accountability

body beast

goals

gym

home workouts

marathon

motivation

muscle

p90x

training

Hi everyone! It's Scott here doing my very first blog! I often get asked my opinion on home workouts vs. gym workouts. Can you really get a good workout at home or do I need to buy a gym membership? Having been both a gym person and a home workout person in the past, here is my opinion.

I started out as a gym guy back in high school over 20 years ago. I stayed in the gym until about the last 5 years or so, mixing in running here and there. I always stayed in great shape, but a few things were getting old... the cost of membership, commute time to and from the gym, slow workouts waiting for equipment, locker room showers... I also felt like I was at a constant plateau with my gains. In an attempt to get out of the gym, and free up some of my time, I started to build my own home gym. I purchased dumbbells, barbells, a weight bench, basically everything I had used at the gym. Now I was free to workout at home on my time, no commute, no fees, no waiting. And everything was great, but as time went by I noticed some things were missing: accountability, motivation, a proven plan and a schedule. All of which I thought I was smarter than. I was starting to get bored.

Then one day Julie came home with this little thing called P90X. "Try it", she said, "You'll love it", she said. Being a self-proclaimed skeptic of DVD workouts I was an anti-DVD guy to say the least. I thought only girls worked out to DVD's and I expected a 1980's style aerobics video. I wanted to be left alone to do my 1-2 hour free weight workouts. Just to make Julie happy, I tried P90X on and off only in an attempt to prove to her it wasn't for me, and in her attempt to prove me wrong she added me to her facebook accountability group. I "knew" I didn't need it, so to "prove" her even more wrong I decided to commit to 90 days, often only using the workout sheets instead of the DVD so she wouldn't know I was following the plan. She soon saw through my "plan" because man, did I see results! Turns out there is actually a lot of scientific research that went into these programs. Let's see... no commute, no gym membership fees, no waiting for equipment, I had a proven program, I was seeing great results that I hadn't seen in a long time, I had motivation and I had accountability. The light bulb definitely went on.

Since then, I have stuck to the P90X program, even using it while training for 3 marathons. My results have continued to be great... then Julie came home with something new... and I knew I had to follow suit. So, following Julie's lead, I started Body Beast on October 1st. Unlike P90X's "functional fitness", Body Beast is all about getting big. The workouts are shorter, the weights are heavier, the supplements are different and the food is plentiful. My goals with this are to gain strength and mass and to put on some of the weight that marathon running this summer has taken off. My before pictures and measurements have been taken and Julie even has me logging all my food with a nutrition app, which is completely new territory for me. I'm trusting the program and I can't wait to share my results with everyone! If you would like to see what the science behind these programs can do for you and if you would like to be added to the facebook accountability group, let me know! It may be totally out of your comfort zone, and not like anything you've ever done, but your results will be worth it!
